COZI has stopped enrolling new volunteers, and is collecting information from current volunteers until [date].
Analysis of the information collected from COZI volunteers is scheduled to begin in [DATE] and be complete by [DATE].
Thank you to [the #, or “all of the”] volunteers who are participating in the COZI study, and the doctors who referred them. We are tremendously grateful for your time and commitment to science and insomnia care.
Continuing to answer COZI surveys and phone calls provides the information that may help improve insomnia treatments in the future.
What do we hope to learn from COZI?
Right now, we do not know whether behavioral therapy for insomnia, medication, or both combined is best to treat chronic insomnia. After we collect and analyze the final data, we will learn the results. Preliminary findings may be available [DATE] and will be published here when they are available. We are very eager to see what we will learn from this necessary clinical trial.

Stay in touch
Current COZI volunteers should continue to answer COZI surveys and phone calls. When your participation is complete, there may be other studies you can join. If you have questions about your study participation, contact your local COZI team.

Millions of Americans can’t sleep at night.
Are you one of them?
Effective treatments are available for chronic insomnia.
Today, doctors don’t know which type of treatment is better—behavioral therapy, medication, or a combination of both.
COZI is a national study to find out.
Chronic insomnia is disrupted sleep that occurs at least three nights per week and lasts at least three months.
Some signs and symptoms of insomnia may include:
✔ difficulty falling asleep.
✔ difficulty staying asleep.
✔ problems waking up too early.
✔ dissatisfaction with your current sleep pattern.
✔ your sleep problem being noticeable to others.
✔ worrying about your current sleep problem.
✔ your sleep problem interfering with your daily functioning.
Chronic insomnia is a serious health condition. Treatment can help.
Insomnia can impact your physical and mental health, safety, employment, and overall well-being.
Guidelines for chronic insomnia care recommend both behavioral therapies and medications. Learn more about them:
COZI is a national research study to learn which insomnia treatments work best—behavioral, medication, or both combined
Today, doctors don’t know.
COZI enrolled [#] people who:
Had chronic insomnia diagnosed by a doctor participating in COZI.
See the list of COZI providers.
Were willing to receive behavioral treatment, medication treatment, or a combination.
Were between 18 and 80 years old.
Had regular access to the internet.
How COZI works
Every COZI participant was assigned to a commonly recommended insomnia treatment (no placebos). Every participant had an equal chance of being assigned to one of three insomnia treatment groups (like flipping a coin).
COZI was designed to fit the insomnia care your doctor thinks is best for you.
If your treatment includes a medication, your doctor can prescribe either zolpidem or trazodone, and adjust or discontinue as needed.
Current volunteers will continue to tell COZI how they are doing for about 1 year after joining.
Continue treating your insomnia as your doctor recommends. They are still in charge of your care!
Answer questions online about your sleep, health, and habits after 1 month, 9 weeks, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months.
1- and 9-month follow-ups take about 5 minutes. All others take 30-45 minutes.
For the 9-week, 6- and 12-month follow-ups complete 10 sleep diaries over 14 days. Each sleep diary takes about 5 minutes.
You will receive automatic reminders and be compensated up to $75 total for completing the follow-ups.
COZI enrolled nationally through participating primary care providers
COZI focused on people with insomnia who live outside of major urban areas, where access to sleep specialists is more limited.
Thank you to the primary care providers who offered participation in COZI to their patients:
